Shana Hirsch continues her work with Human Centered Design & Engineering in her new role as an assistant professor.  Hirsch is the co-director of the Pacific Marine Energy Center (PMEC) and senior research scientist at eDNA Collaborative at the UW. 

Hirsch’s research draws on methods and theories from science and technology studies and human-centered design to support the creation of more just and sustainable ecological futures. 

Her current grants from the Department of Energy support the development of national foundational research capacity in marine energy and understanding community benefits from offshore wind. At the eDNA Collaborative, she works to ensure access to novel conservation monitoring technologies around the world. Her research has also been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
