Martin Nisser joined Aeronautics & Astronautics this summer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he completed his Ph.D. in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Nisser’s research focuses on computational design and fabrication, co-developing hardware and software to create distributed manufacturing platforms that can autonomously manufacture items not suited to traditional mass manufacturing methods. By applying computational methods to fabrication techniques, programmable materials and robotics, he develops new manufacturing capabilities for applications spanning in-space assembly to personal fabrication. He is a Sweden-America fellow, a Bernard Gold fellow, and has appeared in media including BBC News, The NBC Daily Show, The Washington Post, NASA TV, Forbes and Popular Science.
