The Dean’s Office provides central support to all College of Engineering units. Areas of focus include research and faculty affairs; academic affairs; advancement; diversity, equity and inclusion; finance and operations; infrastructure; and medical technology innovation.

Nancy Allbritton
Frank & Julie Jungers Dean of Engineering

Faculty profile

Nancy Allbritton serves as the chief academic officer of the College of Engineering, a top-15 nationally ranked public university program with annual research expenditures exceeding $159 million. She provides leadership to over 279 faculty and more than 8,000 students. Under her guidance, the College launched an inclusive and wide-ranging strategic planning effort; advanced initiatives to build an inclusive and equitable environment for learning, research, service and outreach; and furthered plans to construct a student-focused new facility, the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building, to help address growth in student enrollment. The Dean works closely with the College’s associate deans and advisory board in day-to-day and long-range planning.

Jihui Yang

Jihui Yang, Vice Dean

Faculty profile

Jihui Yang serves as the principal research administrator for the College. The Research and Faculty Affairs staff ensure that the College’s research is conducted in a creative, efficient and ethical manner and foster best practices for integrating research with the College’s educational goals. Yang provides leadership for strategic initiatives, and represents the College in activities related to fundraising, as well as federal and state relations.

Daniel Ratner

Daniel Ratner, Associate Dean

Faculty profile

Dan Ratner oversees student-focused educational innovation and processes, implementation of ABET processes, and academic integrity and misconduct policies and procedures. Academic Affairs staff manage several student-focused program areas: student academic services, study abroad, the Career Center @ Engineering, the Industry Capstone Program, graduate studies and professional master’s programs. Through The Office for the Advancement of Engineering Teaching & Learning, staff support engineering educators looking to enhance their teaching.

David Iyall

David Iyall, Associate Dean

David Iyall oversees the College’s advancement efforts. Advancement staff build relationships with alumni and corporate and community partners and raise funds to support students, faculty, research and innovation. Programs include individual giving, corporate and foundations relations, alumni engagement, special initiatives and campaigns.

Robin Clayton

Robin Clayton, Interim Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence

Robin Clayton leads the College’s ongoing efforts to be an accessible, welcoming and inclusive community. She develops best practices and guidelines that strengthen the College’s goals around diversity, equity and inclusion, and collaborates with College and campus leaders to develop and implement programs that increase the participation and engagement of diverse and underrepresented groups across the College.

Kojay Pan, Associate Dean

Kojay Pan serves as the financial and operational lead in the College, tasked with crafting and shaping financial, budgetary, administrative, and operational policies and strategies to meet evolving needs.

Pedro Arduino, Special Assistant to the Dean

Faculty profile

The Office of Infrastructure manages affairs relating to facilities and safety, including assisting faculty and departments with space management. Administers the Computing Services department.

Heather Hoeksema

Heather Hoeksema, Executive Director, Strategy & External Relations

Heather Hoeksema oversees the implementation of the College’s strategic plan, and is responsible for external communications and engagement strategy. Hoeksema leads the College’s Marketing and Communications team and partners with the UW to secure state funding for major projects.

Tadayoshi (Yoshi) Kohno, Associate Dean

Faculty profile

Yoshi supports, advocates for, and advances engineering faculty success in teaching, research, and service. This includes working with units to facilitate programs and processes to support faculty development and mentorship, orienting new faculty, and engaging with teaching faculty in the College.

Tueng Shen

Tueng T. Shen, Associate Dean

Faculty profile

Tueng Shen provides guidance and support for existing programs and catalyzes new partnerships between faculty and trainees of the College of Engineering and UW School of Medicine. She engages institutional leaders to ensure that innovative efforts build long-term value for the UW and leads outreach to industry, non-profit organizations and other community organizations to advocate and promote the UW and its faculty and students.
