Simon Peter joins the Allen School this winter. He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Texas where he develops operating systems and networks with an emphasis on data centers.
Data centers are responsible for more than 2% of the total U.S. power consumption. Peter aims to improve data center energy efficiency, cost and reliability to account for the continuing rise in users and computation by designing server-focused systems to raise load and improve service for the same cost and energy. He has been recognized by the Sloan Foundation, NSF and IEEE for his work in systems research, internet reliability and cloud computing.
