Student programs for inclusive excellence

The College of Engineering strives to be an inclusive community where all members thrive, are valued, and feel a sense of belonging. The programs highlighted below focus on increasing access to engineering and help advance our population of students from diverse backgrounds by supporting their academic, leadership, and personal development.

PEERs - Promoting Equity in Engineering Relationships

PEERs focuses on the long-term goal of increasing participation of all underrepresented groups in engineering through a seminar, peer-led presentations, and a network of student leaders.

Women Engineers Rise (WE Rise)

WE Rise (formerly known as WiSE) provides social connection, mentoring, advising, and tutoring for women in engineering. Programs include WE Rise Conference,  Spring Leadership Academy, the WE Rise & Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Major Chair Mentoring Program, and more.

Pathways for Inclusive Excellence (PIE)

Pathways for Inclusive Excellence (PIE) was created to support talented Washington state students who need additional STEM support and college preparation before they begin their engineering or computer science careers. Students who are admitted to PIE are notified in their university admission offer letter.

Allen School Scholars Program

Allen Scholars is a one-year cohort-based program that provides dynamic support to incoming Allen School Freshman Direct Admits who have limited programming experiences and/or are from low-income, first-generation and underserved communities.

Engineering Dean's Scholars

Engineering Dean's Scholars are part of a holistic, first-year cohort program to support students who have incredible potential to become excellent engineers and would benefit from additional time and resources to ensure a strong STEM foundation.

STARS - Washington State Academic RedShirt in Engineering

STARS supports engineering and computer science students from low-income, first-generation, and underserved backgrounds in navigating the transition to college-level courses through a specialized curriculum designed to build learning skills and strengthen academic preparation.

We also partner with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
