Recruiting Presenters

When beginning the program, a formal recruitment process is important. Recruiting and internal advertisement of the program should be done at the beginning of Fall quarter. A good way to do this is to get a booth at Engineering Kick-Off type events and have advisors send out mass email to the students in their engineering department. Here is a copy of the application form we use:

Another thing to consider is what you want the make-up of the program to be. You want presenters to be comfortable and energetic when speaking to younger girls. You also want your women's initiative to represent as much of a variety of the engineering programs you offer as possible. For example, you may have a lot of women from Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering that would be a great fit for the program, so you ask the advisors or department heads of Computer, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering for recommendations for presenters. You may also want to consider presenters whose schedules work well for outreach visits. One thing we have found is having at least 1 or 2 grad students, because of their flexible schedules, is a really helpful asset to the program.
