The Office of Inclusive Excellence supports the College of Engineering in meeting its goals to foster a culture where all members thrive, are valued, and feel a sense of belonging. We do this through strategic planning and development, collaboration and inclusive engagement.
How we engage with the College
OIE supports people
We are committed to supporting all members of the College of Engineering community, including students, staff and faculty. Our initiatives, like Summer Bridge and Pathways for Inclusive Excellence, help students find their place at UW. We also support faculty by creating inclusive systems, such as transparent and rubric-based faculty hiring practices.

Through workshops, trainings and seminars, we help students, staff and faculty develop the skills needed to create inclusive environments. For example, the Inclusive Excellence Faculty Fellowship helps faculty build welcoming classroom spaces for all kinds of students. Our popular Microaggressions Training for staff is now offered to students as well.

We want to make inclusion a daily practice, shaping how we learn, collaborate and innovate together. We do this through initiatives like the WE Rise Professional Mentorship Program, which connects students with ongoing support. We also host events that promote a culture of belonging, like the WE Rise conference and Fail Forward: Building Resilience in STEM.
